Things to do

Take a trip to the nearby mountains or Lake Lucerne, discover nature in the region and find a program that inspires young and old, even in bad weather.

Sights in Lucerne

There are particularly many sights in a small area in Lucerne. The Chapel Bridge with the Water Tower is the landmark of Lucerne and the most photographed monument in Switzerland.

Mount Pilatus

The dragon mountain on Lucerne’s doorstep. Mount Pilatus which reaches a height of 2,128 metres above sea level, provides a breath-taking view over Lake Lucerne and central Switzerland. We recommend the «Golden Round Trip». This route will take you by ship from Lucerne to Alpnachstad where you will change to the world’s steepest cog railway up Mount Pilatus. You return to Lucerne by cable car and bus.

Rigi – Queen of the Mountains

Take a ride on Europe’s oldest mountain railway on your next day trip to the Rigi. The ride and views of Lake Lucerne are stunning. The Rigi is a mountain where you can hike, relax and swim, as well as sledge and ski in winter. Exercise and fresh air are enough to make anyone hungry: barbecue spots and restaurants are open all year round.

Boat ride on Lake Lucerne

A boat trip on Lake Lucerne is simply part of a stay in Lucerne. There is a suitable tour for everyone: whether a round trip by steamer to the turquoise blue Urner Lake or in the Lucerne lake basin with the old town in the background. From scheduled boat trips to unique culinary cruises, everything is included.

We recommend the sunset cruise from Lucerne – it is the perfect way to end the day. There is a round trip with the MS Diamant every day, on weekends the sunset trip takes place on the steamboat.

Tell Pass – Your Key to Central Switzerland

Take a trip into the unique mountainscapes of the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne Region. Ride a cogwheel or funicular railway or aerial cableway up the Pilatus, the Rigi, the Titlis and many other easily accessible mountains. The Tell Pass is your key to Central Switzerland. Free travel by train, bus, boat and numerous mountain railroads throughout Central Switzerland.

The mountains of Central Switzerland are famous for record-breaking feats of engineering designed to provide wonderful visitor experiences, including the world’s steepest cogwheel railway (Mount Pilatus), Europe’s first mountain railway (Mount Rigi), the world’s first double-deck open-top aerial cableway (Mount Stanserhorn) and the world’s steepest funicular railway (Stoos).

Swiss Museum of Transport

One of Switzerland’s most popular museums offering enjoyment for young and old! The changing attractions make every visit unique. Permanent highlights: Switzerland’s most modern large-scale planetarium where you can take a trip through the stars and observe breath-taking views of the heavens, the Swiss Chocolate Adventure where you can learn more about the origin, manufacture and transportation of chocolate during a 20 minute tour, the cinema with the world’s largest fixed screen, showing enthralling feature films and documentaries, the Museum of the Past and Future of Mobility which focusses on: roads, rail, water air and the universe.
